Graduate
Programs - FAQ
<< Back
1. Where do I mail my
application materials? Please
mail all application materials to Department of Chemistry,
University of Idaho, P.O. Box 442343, Moscow, ID
83844-2343. Once received, the department will place copies
of your materials in your file and then send the originals to
Graduate Admissions. 2. Can
I apply for a Teaching/Research Assistantship position? Most
of our graduate students are supported as teaching assistants in
their first year, although a first-year student may occasionally
be granted support in the form of a research assistantship. The
exact amount of an assistantship is set by the state legislature,
and will normally increase each year. After their first two
semesters at the
University
of
Idaho, students are usually ready to begin doing research in earnest.
Our faculty are awarded grants that enable them to support some
students doing research for the M.S. or Ph.D. degree. The amount
of a research assistantship is negotiated with the individual
faculty member but is similar to the amount of a teaching
assistantship. Registration fees and tuition are typically
covered.
3.
What if I want to visit the department before I make a decision? We
realize that students like to have the opportunity to visit the
Chemistry Departments of universities they are considering.
To this end, we offer a reimbursement of $250 towards the
travel of any student whose application is accepted. 4.
Who can I contact with specific questions? Please
contact our department at chemoff@uidaho.edu
with any questions.
